What is the Fire Mountain Staff Alumni Association?

Former and current members of the camp staff of Fire Mountain Scout Camp formed the Fire Mountain Staff Alumni Association in 2001. The purpose of the Association (FMSAA) is to promote Fire Mountain Scout Camp, and to preserve its history and traditions. The Association is a great way to stay in contact with old camp staff friends, stay up-to-date with what is happening at camp, and continue to support a place that has played a part of the character development of thousands of young people of the Pacific Northwest since 1972.

What has the Alumni Association done so far?

Annual Activities
- $2,000 in College Scholarships awarded
- Provide funds for a staffer of the week cash award
- Provides funds for the camp staff "Sock Lottery" recognition program
- Several camp staff events during the summer such as pie night and alumni day in camp
- Fund and manage the staff uniform bank to help reduce the financial burden of uniform purchases by staff
- Social events throughout the year such as the annual Christmas Party
2024
- Bought and installed smart lightswitches and dimable exterior LED lighting for the staff cabins
- Donated $6,000 to build two new display cases in the Fire Mountain McKinley Museum
- Co-hosted the 10th anniversary celebration of the Fire Mountain McKinley Museum
2023
- Bought new mattresses for the staff cabins
- Bought ID card printer for camp which is used to print staff name badges and other media for camp operations
2022
- Donated $5,000 towards the purchase of a new sailboat for the marina in memory of Jim Hovis
- Donated $5,000 towards the new US Flag pole in the 50th Anniversary Plaza in memory of Jim Hovis
- Donated $1,000 towards a bench in the 50th Anniversary Plaza in honor of past, present, and future staff
- Helped staff the 2022 Council Camporee
- Provided a staff gift and engraved name tags
2021
- Built a new foot bridge on the Kelcema Trail
- Worked to extend Historical Trail along the westside of camp
- Donated $1,000 towards the Fire Mountain Scout Camp McKinley Museum
- Donated $400 towards the summer camp staff "Sock Lottery"
- Established the 'Alumni Assistance Fund' to support staff alumni in their time of need
- Provided a staff gift and engraved name tags
2020
- Purchased tables and chairs for the Staff Area Fire Eagles Nest
- Purchased and installed signs along the historical trail
- Donated funds and labor towards the Fire Mountain Museum improvement project
2019
- Donated $1,000 towards the new Janicki Shelter
- Sponsored lunch at the Farmhouse Burning
- Provided a staff gift and engraved name tags
2018
- Began re-opening the historical trail
- Supported the start of the CampSperts program
- Provided a staff gift and engraved name tags
- Provided supplemental funding for staff jackets
2017
- Provided $20,000 towards staff housing project
- Provided a staff gift and engraved name tags

2015
- Provided $2,000 towards staff mattress replacements
- Provided $500 towards staff bunk replacements

2008
- Staff Bunkhouse bathroom repairs and painting

2007
- Donated basketball hoop and air hockey table to staff area bunkhouse
- Provided Fire Mountain welcome mat for the Dining Hall
- Provided a staff gift and engraved name tags

2006
- Started hosting staff Pie Night during the summer
- Started hosting the end-of-the-summer waterski party and BBQ
- Started the FMSAA Scholarships
2003
- Held the first FMSAA Merit Badge Extravaganza, the first event of its kind staffed by camp alumni and other volunteers
- Provided funding and manpower to complete the Little Beaver update which served as the model for the other campsite redesigns
- Established the 'Lifetime Membership'
- Completed the application for IRS 501(c)3 status
- Started the 'Keepers of the Totem' program
2002
- Provided funding for the building of adirondacks in Little Beaver
- Started the Fire Mountain Museum which contains photos, stories and artifacts from the history of the camp
- Started the Fire Mountain historical trail
2001
- Raised funds to provide camp with Frost-Free Yard Hydrants for all campsites and outdoor areas around camp
- Held the first Staff Reunion at Fire Mountain
- Built and launched the first ever Fire Mountain Camp website

Board of Directors

Board members are nominated from any member in good standing beginning the third Monday of December and concluding the third Monday of February each year. Elections are held by mail between the third Monday of January and the third Monday of February each year.

Board meetings are open for anyone to attend and take place the 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm online via Zoom.
