Fire Mountain Scout Camp

2022 Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree - Ted Carpenter

The best explanation for Ted's recognition is in this poem:

Our Carpenter

Every camp has a carpenter to keep things updated, but ours is named Ted, and he's really first-rate.

He's been around camp right here from the start. He is our camp's soul, and he gives the camp heart.

Ted is our camp's treasure, more precious than gold. He is our faithful companion who never grows old.

Working in campsites and whacking the weeds, he works here year-round, tending to all of the camp's needs.

Not one for attention, credit, or prase, he will work on the weekdays, and in the Knoll Lodge he stays.

He cleans out the trails, captures the mice, and maintains the buildings, helping to keep camp nice.

Although rarely noticed, his work is always seen, from manicured campsites to a clear-flowing stream.

The lights are all working, and the smoke alarms too; the things Ted attends to keep camp safe for you.

When camp is fairly empty and people are at rest, that's when Ted is working and "doing his best."

He is the best mentor, and that is because he lives the Scout Law in all that he does.

Now decades later, Fire Mountain has grown; to some it's a camp, to many our home. God saw what we needed when he gave us this land. He blessed us with Ted; he sent his best man.
